Fancy Gap is the North Carolina songwriting duo of Stuart McLamb (The Love Language) and Charles Crossingham, a partnership built on instinct, melody, and the kind of emotional honesty that only forms when two musicians hole up in the mountains with nothing but guitars, preamps, and time. The project was born during late-night writing sessions in their namesake Fancy Gap, VA, where the pair sheltered during the early days of the pandemic and began shaping songs that blended country warmth, ’90s radio rock energy, and vivid, heartfelt storytelling.
Their self-titled debut album captured the immediacy of those sessions—raw, spacious, and full of first-take vocals tracked through a portable rack of Quad Eight preamps. As the record took shape, the duo expanded their circle and invited in a remarkable cast of collaborators, including Sharon Van Etten, Adam Lazzara (Taking Back Sunday), and Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters / The Wallflowers). The album was ultimately mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Craig Alvin, known for his work on Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour, giving the project its widescreen depth and cinematic sheen.
Following the release, Fancy Gap’s profile rose quickly. They were featured on PBS’s Shaped by Sound, received consistent airplay on That Station in Durham, and built a strong live following across North Carolina with a dynamic six-piece band. Shows at venues like The Pour House in Raleigh drew packed rooms and expanded their audience well beyond their debut’s reach.
In late 2024 and 2025, the band continued their momentum with the singles “Starlite Motel” and “Gold Coast,” signaling a new era of sound—more rhythmic, atmospheric, and expansive while staying rooted in the emotional clarity that defines their songwriting. Additional singles are slated for release throughout 2026 as Fancy Gap completes their sophomore album, a record that widens their sonic universe without losing the heart of the project: two friends chasing songs that feel true.
